Description

Own a piece of history, Brownstone Quarry View Historic Park and Campground! Quarry View is a historic quarry located in Portland, Connecticut. This location and stone was an important source for construction in the latter half of the 19th century for a number of landmark buildings in Chicago, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New Haven, Connecticut, and Hartford. The site was listed as a National Historic Landmark, and on the National Register of Historic Places, on May 16, 2000. Quarry View is situated on 6.5 acres and is an approved 48 site campground. This magical place is the home of a number of waterfalls, archived carved dates dating back to 1887 along with initials carved into the walls along and local area wildlife. The back portion of the property boasts a rear patio and an 80 foot wall where musical acoustics can be heard like no other location anywhere. The park has a .54-mile walking self or guided tour with markers and has 6 amazing stone patios & derricks dating back to the late 1800’s with 3 steam donkey locations. Many weddings and a recent Stephen King Netflix Series have been performed and filmed here. Primitive tools, drills and chisels dating back to 1700s are on display. Stones and the quarry walls show the 4 types of cuts used to remove the stones. Dinosaur prints have been found and preserved showing their original walking path. This Historic National Landmark was believed to be owned by Stone cutter James Stanclift who is believed to have been the first European to live on the eastern bank of the river. In 1686, the town granted him “a parcel of land upon the rocks” in payment for his work as a mason. He owned six acres of prime quarry land. We believe this to be the original same 6-acre lot now owned by the caretakers who are preserving and restoring its hidden beauty. The property has on site Water, Sewer, Gas, and both a 400 & 200-amp service along with a storage building (under construction). Quarry View is adjacent to the Brownstone Adventure & Discovery Water Park – An adventure center for rock climbing, swimming, zip lining, hiking, cliff jumping and more. This property is perfect for a number of diversified businesses that could include a brewery, restaurant, wedding venue or whatever you can dream up. Owning this piece of property is a once in a lifetime opportunity. There is land located above level to the Main Street Area of town, along with land available to purchase by another property owner in the same upper location that borders Quarry View. Many pieces of Brownstone are still available on site for restoration to already existing buildings in the areas listed above. This property is approved for residence or business. Sewer and water on site, no septic plan needed.
