Almond Orchard History: November 2004-Bought the ranch January 2005- Planted $5,000 Buttes & Padre Almond Trees Winter 2008 and 2009 – Heavy rain. The ranch next door creek was plugged. Water could not flow and backed up in trees. Lost trees in low places. The next year, cleaned creek and fixed low places. 650 trees were replanted. New root stock was very good for heavy ground and hold additional water. Lost 250 trees that didn’t make it from 2009 heavy rain. 2015 - Heavy rain and 50-60 MPH winds knocked trees over and hit others like dominoes. 1,000 trees went down and again lost 2016 - trees that were leaving 200. Most Padres 90: Buttes 10: They hold up better. 2017-Frost may have played a part. Padre butts are down in production in most orchards this year. All trees have been replanted with new root stock. This has been proved to be working well. Production should start picking up with new trees and producing. This should make the orchard last longer
