About Basingstoke & Deane
Basingstoke & Deane is an established office destination within the Thames Valley and hosts a diverse business base and economy, whose office-using industries account for nearly two-thirds of total employment, which is above the national average. Notably, about 8% of local jobs are in the information and communication sector, considerably above figures for the South East region (6%) and the UK overall (4.5%). The borough council is proactively working with local landowners to regenerate Basingstoke’s town centre in the coming years, after approving a new masterplan in December 2022. The plans involve more green spaces and cultural hubs, which will add to the vibrant retail offering that already exists there.
Regular train services and the M3 motorway provide easy access to London and nearby towns by rail and road. Incoming firms will benefit from lower occupational costs than in other parts of the Thames Valley. Indeed, with average office rents below £20 per square foot, Basingstoke & Deane is one of the most affordable areas in the South East region to rent an office. Average rents are also around a third cheaper than those paid in nearby Reading.
