Jim has been a REALTOR® since 1977 and has earned the professional designations of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) and SIOR (Society of Office and Industrial Realtors – Industrial Specialist). Jim is a past president and REALTOR® of the Year of the Southern Indiana REALTORS® Association, a member of the Indiana Commercial Board of REALTORS® (ICBR) for which he previously served as the 2019 President and was selected as ICBR’s 2016 REALTOR® of the Year. Jim is also a licensed real estate appraiser, continuing education instructor and certified tax assessment appeal representative. On January 1st, 2004, Jim and his wife, Kim Baker, CCIM, CIPS, founded Baker Commercial Real Estate located in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Jim is also the author of, Confessions of a Commercial Real Estate Broker / Daily Lessons Learned in CRE and Life, which is available for purchase on Amazon.
In 2022, Jim ran in the Republican primary for Congress in Indiana’s 9th District but was unsuccessful in winning the nomination.
Prior to real estate, Jim was a professional musician and began his musical career as a percussionist with the Louisville Orchestra while a student at New Albany High School. During his time with the LO, Jim became the Principal Percussionist and performed and recorded with many of the world’s most renowned musicians. Jim graduated with High Honors from the University of Louisville School of Music and after graduation was employed for 4 years as a band, orchestra, and music theory/composition teacher at Jeffersonville High School. He currently performs as a jazz vibraphonist and drummer.
Jim and his wife, Kim, have a combined 6 children and 17 grandchildren and reside in Southern Indiana (Louisville, KY MSA).
